In some cases, you won't abe able to enter a VE from the dedicated server , or directly SSH to that VE. If you try to enter a VE from the dedicated server using the command (VEID is the number you assigned to the VPS account):

  • /usr/sbin/vzctl enter VEID

you'll get the following error message:

    enter into VEID failed
Unable to open pty: No such file or directory

Here is the solution: at the dedicated server command line, run these commands (in that order):

  • /usr/sbin/vzctl exec VEID /sbin/MAKEDEV tty
  • /usr/sbin/vzctl exec VEID /sbin/MAKEDEV pty
  • /usr/sbin/vzctl restart VEID
  • /usr/sbin/vzctl enter VEID
  • rpm -qa | grep -i udev
  • rpm -qf /etc/udev/makedev.d/50-udev.nodes
  • rpm -e --nodeps udev-095-14.9.el5
